Studio Technologist
Location: San Francisco/Remote
About Us
CARD79 is a San Francisco-based design studio that helps organizations create the next generation of products, services, and experiences. Our work spans robotics, AI, neurotechnology, healthcare, consumer products, and digital experiences. We work with ambitious clients who are building technologies that will shape the future.
The Role
We're looking for a Studio Technologist to help us build the systems behind the studio.
This role sits at the intersection of design, technology, and making. You will create internal software tools, automate workflows, develop rapid prototypes, and help our team explore new ways of working using AI-assisted development tools.
This role is particularly well suited to someone early in their career (roughly 0–5 years of experience) who has a strong portfolio of projects and enjoys learning by building. We're less interested in traditional credentials than in curiosity, initiative, product thinking, and a demonstrated ability to turn ideas into working solutions.
You do not need to be a senior software engineer. We are looking for someone who enjoys learning, experimenting, and turning ideas into working software.
What You'll Do
Build internal software tools that improve how our studio operates
Create rapid prototypes for client and internal projects
Use AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, and similar platforms to accelerate development
Explore and evaluate new technologies, tools, and workflows
Automate repetitive processes across design, operations, research, and business development
Collaborate with designers, strategists, and engineers to bring ideas to life
Help establish best practices for AI-assisted software development within the studio
Maintain and improve the tools you create
What We’re Looking For
Experience building software projects, whether professionally, academically, or independently
Familiarity with modern web technologies such as React, Next.js, TypeScript, or similar frameworks
Experience using AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Replit, Lovable, Bolt, or comparable platforms
Ability to debug and troubleshoot software problems independently
Strong communication skills and willingness to work collaboratively
Comfort working in an environment where requirements are often evolving
Design, UX, or product thinking exposure
Ideally having previously created internal tools or workflow automations
You'll Thrive Here If…
Constantly build side projects
Enjoy experimenting with new tools
Prefer making things over talking about making things
Like solving messy problems
Get excited when you discover a faster way to do something
Are comfortable figuring things out as you go
Why this Role Matters
We believe that modern AI-assisted development tools are changing who can build software and how quickly ideas can become reality. This role will help CARD79 explore that future while creating practical tools that improve our work every day.
If you're excited about building useful things, learning rapidly, and working on projects that span design, technology, robotics, and AI, we'd love to hear from you.
